What to know

critics consensus

The Lost World demonstrates how far CG effects have come in the four years since Jurassic Park; unfortunately, it also proves how difficult it can be to put together a truly compelling sequel. Read critic reviews

Movie Info

John Hammond (Richard Attenborough) summons chaos theorist Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum) to his home with some startling information -- while nearly everything at his Jurassic Park had been destroyed, his engineers happened to have a second site, where other dinosaurs were kept in hiding. It seems the dinosaurs on the second island are alive and well and even breeding; and Hammond wants Malcolm to observe and document the reptiles before Hammond's financiers can get to them.

So many annoying characters in this one. The set pieces are constantly set-up, so that the heroes can stay alive. These two points alone kill this movie for me.

Not a popular opinion, but I love this film. Sure it's not as good as the first film and has a different tone but that's what the film was going for. Steven Spielberg once again does a good job. Jeff Goldblum is again brilliant as Ian Malcolm and Julianne Moore is pretty good too, it has some thrilling scenes though it does have really dumb scenes (gymnastic scene)..... Nonetheless another good effort and enjoyable film!

"The Lost World: Jurassic Park" is an okay Sci-Fi/Fantasy movie of 1997. The plot to this movie is that people find out that a second park was being built with the first one, and just like the first one all hell will break loose. The plot to the movie is a bit unsatisfactory. Almost the first hour of this movie just is people talking to one another, that's it. During the movie the action does pay for it. The scene where a woman is lying on the glass hoping it won't break, that scene is very intense. The acting in this movie is good; "Jeff Goldblum" is a good actor. The acting in the movie is nowhere near as good as 1993's "Jurassic Park". "John Williams" has again composed the movie's music. He music is splendid but some scenes are put with the wrong music. Plus some music is just recycled from the previous movie. Just like "Jurassic Park" the C.G.I. looks great. The special effects are probably the best part of the movie. The C.G.I. usually is very unnoticeable in "Steven Spielberg" movies. The filming in this movie is good; I found some scenes that could've been filmed better. If they were done better it would've made the movie a bit more suspenseful. "The Lost World: Jurassic Park" is one of "Steven Spielberg's" not so great movies. I honestly found "The Lost World: Jurassic Park" to be a bit disappointing. If you enjoyed "Jurassic Park" then you might like "The Lost World: Jurassic Park" because it has good special effects, okay acting and a great music score. The movie could've been done better if it didn't have the boring first half, some scenes been shot better and a better plot. I give "The Lost World: Jurassic Park" a 5.5/10.

If you loved the charismatic Doctor Ian Malcolm of the first film, then get ready for him to take centre stage, and immediately have every interesting character trait stripped away! Did the original have you believing dinosaurs walked the Earth with its seamless blend of practical effects and groundbreaking CGI? Too bad! That's gone too! Sense of wonder? Poof! Marvel as each and every actor phones it in over an absurdly bloated runtime in: "Jurassic Park II"! I mean, "Jurassic Park II: The Lost World" I mean, "The Lost World"! I mean, "The Lost World: Jurassic Park for some damn reason"
